Part of Benedict Cumberbatch’s answer before the bug incident, in regards to instruments he’s playedI play the piano, very tentatively when I was a kid, when I was six or younger but not very long as we didn’t have room for a piano in our flat. Then I think I went onto the trumpet because I liked the solo in “You Can Call me Al” in the Paul Simon song. Then I went onto play the accordion because I thought it would get me in the good books with my then headmaster but I think that didn’t last very long.

It makes my heart beat as well, cos you know, everyone who plays the violin, does to the standard I’m supposed to. Sherlock has learnt from the age of four and has bled over that instrument and I faking it, it feels horrible……playing a classical instrument is just such a heinous thing for me, it really really upsets me because the fingering is out, the bow is out, the position is not right, the timing’s not right and that’s what I have to do, I have to just mime it obviously. But there’s also just a bit of sound I make, you can’t hear it but I can hear it and it tortures me. There are those beautiful happy moments where I’m supposed to be serenading my best friend and his wife and it’s like, “Way to ruin that one Ben.” But the music they write for it, is gorgeous and it works and when you get it right, it really works.

Но я играл немного, но вы не услышите, но я слышал и это мука для меня.
Есть красивый и счастливый момент, когда я играю серенаду для моего друга и его жены. Эта музыка написана для них, и она великолепна.
хIf this was to be your very last conversation, what words of wisdom would you want to pass on?God, that’s a bit morbid. But that’s fine, it’s a good question. Well I guess the quote, most of you superfans will know everything I’ve ever said or done but, you know it, it’s “Dance as though no one’s watching, sing as no one can hear you, love as though you’ve never been hurt and live life as if heaven is on earth.” Which, I just think is a really good, sort of way not to be overly concerned of people’s perception of you, be free in expressing yourself and to enjoy everything you have now. With ultimate respect for any religion that gives you an understanding of something beyond this life. Just enjoy what you have now and be good to those around you. There’s another phrase that’s going around and round my head, it’s a beautiful lyric from the new Elbow album Guy Garvey, My Sad Captains,”And if it’s all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.” It’s beautiful, but anyway that’s Guy Garvey for you. He’s a master.
